The trees post fire, especially in the very thoroughly burned areas have very little root length left to anchor them to the land. Them blowing over is a big risk but further, I need them on the ground to either load into a tub-grinder, full-tree chipper or to incorporate with a rock-crushing forest mulcher if I can find any of this equipment. Attesting to the ease with which the trees can fall, these more than two-dozen trees were pushed over by me in under an hour with my 10,000lb Kubota M59 using a bucket with a cutting edge to "bite" into the tree helping uproot it. For larger trees, I've found the backhoe is a much more capable instrument as seen by the below video from May 20th.
